Launch of PhotoIreland Festival 2018 & Laia Abril's On Abortion

Launch of PhotoIreland Festival 2018 & Laia Abril's On Abortion @ The Copper House

Festival Launch: 6pm Thu 3rd May
Exhibition Running: 4-31 May
At The Copper House Gallery, St. Kevin’s Cottages, Dublin 8

With the motto “vibrant, friendly, all-inclusive: a festival for all to enjoy”, we set out to raise awareness on local and international photographers and artists working with Photography, and to underline the work of those organisations and individuals that for years have been promoting an engagement with the medium.

This year we present the works of two photographers working around women’s rights, at a time when Ireland will vote in a referendum about issues concerning access to legal abortion. Join us for the festival launch on the 3rd May, at The Copper House Gallery, where Laia Abril will also launch her comprehensive work 'On Abortion', looking at the history and repercussions for women in the absence of safe and legal abortions - the first chapter of an extensive project 'A History of Misogyny'. On the 5th May, at The Library Project, Irish artist Sarah Cullen presents her work You Shall Have Exactly What You Want, exploring the experiences of pregnant women in Ireland who are faced with crisis pregnancies.

Aside, Irish photographer Jamin Keogh presents for the first time his new project Moyross Study - a sociological exploration of Moyross housing estate in Limerick. The festival residency How to Flatten a Mountain continues into its third year with the outcome of this unique residency, at Cow House Studios, to be exhibited in Rathfarnham Castle. Mariela Sancari brings her internationally acclaimed project Moisés. Junior Press launches the 3rd issue of their exciting magazine and Daragh Soden launches his new photobook Toulon, part of the Portraits de Villes.
